James "Jay" Hazlett

After high school, Jay attended Luther College, graduating with a degree in Accounting in May, 1985 and starting his career with a move to South Carolina. Jay passed the CPA Exam in February of 1986 and started taking night classes at the University of South Carolina while working full time.

 

Jay married his college sweetheart, Kimberly Bruce, in 1986 and the following year they moved to the Dallas area, where they started their family. In 1991, they relocated to Grayslake IL (north of Chicago) where they continue living today. Jay and Kim have two grown children - a son born in Dallas TX and a daughter born in Park Ridge IL. Jay earned an MBA Degree from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management in 1993. Kim earned an MLIS Degree from Dominican University in 2008.

 

Jay worked in finance and accounting for several employers in the Chicago area, including Moore Business Forms, Accenture, and the federal government. In January 2020, Jay retired from GSA after 14 years of government service, which followed 20 years in the corporate world. Today, Jay’s hobbies include golfing, playing chess, working on cars, and he’s learning to cook!
