Friday Night - October 16, 2026
Iowa City High Little Hawks Football Game
The Iowa City High Little Hawks varsity football team will host Des Moines East at 7 p.m. Friday, October 16, at Frank Bates Field. Get together with fellow members of the class of 1981 at the game as part of our 45th reunion festivities! We’ve reserved the Jim Sangster Alumni Box for use by our class.
You’ll need to purchase your own tickets for the game. (This past season, they were $9 for adults and $7 for senior citizens; it has not been determined whether class of 1981 members qualify as senior citizens yet.) Once inside the stadium, you can head to the Alumni Box to sit with your classmates. The Alumni Box will seat 40 people, but please indicate if you are planning to attend so we can ask that enough folding chairs be set up for class members and their guests.
The Little Hawks, under head coach Mitchell Moore, are looking to return to their winning ways in 2026 after going 2-7 in 2025. Moore led the team to a winning record in each of his first four seasons coaching the Little Hawks from 2021 to 2024. In 2021, his first season at City High, the team went 10-2, with their second loss coming in the state 5A semifinals at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls. The Little Hawks will seemingly have a good chance for victory against the Des Moines East Scarlets, who went 1-8 in 2025, including a 59-14 loss to City High at their home field in Des Moines.
There is, of course, more to attending a City High football game than just watching football. The Little Hawk Marching Band, under the direction of Mike Kowbel and Aaron Ottmar, will play, and the cheerleading team will be performing under the direction of a new head coach.
Saturday - October 17, 2026
Golf Outing*
There will be a 9-hole golf outing on Saturday morning at the Lake McBride Golf & Event Center. Format to be determined based on the number of people who participate. Roughly $65 per person. You buy your own food and drinks. Rental clubs may be available. There will be prizes. 😊

HOTEL INFORMATION
The reunion committee’s suggested hotel for the weekend is the Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel & Conference Center. It is located at 300 E 9th St. in Coralville, less than 7 miles from Field Day Brewing Company. It is right by the Iowa River Landing Wetland Park - both the park and the hotel were established in 2006 – and many rooms overlook the park and the Iowa River. (The hotel was originally a Marriott before becoming a Hyatt in 2021.)
The hotel’s Watermill Kitchen & Bar serves breakfast and also, as the “bar” in the name suggests, cocktails, wine, beer, and other beverages. Tribute Eatery & Bar and Iowa Athletic Club are among the businesses located just a short walk away. The hotel also features an indoor pool with a hot tub.
The reunion committee has been in contact with the Hyatt Regency Coralville and the hotel is holding a block of rooms for class members at the current room list price of $159 a night. Note that the City of Coralville charges an additional $10 a night per vehicle for overnight parking at the hotel and there are taxes and destination fees of 13.5%. We’re not under any obligation to book a certain number of rooms, so if you want to use World of Hyatt points or have another method of getting a better rate, feel free to do so.
